Institute for Somali Studies (ISOS) is a non-profit research center within Mogadishu University.
The Institute aims at knowledge generation through research and analysis on Somalia, Horn of Africa, and the Somali communities in abroad.
The ISOS is a platform for sharing knowledge, ideas and experience; and promotes analysis of key and contemporary issues and developments. It focuses on issues which are critical to the recovery and rebuilding of Somalia, a country emerging from a devastating civil war.
The ISOS conducts and coordinates researches workshops, conferences, discussions, and dialogues; and disseminates findings, reports, and analysis through publications and events.
The ISOS works with institutions at national, regional and worldwide level.
The Institute is located in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Programs
Cilmiwadaag platform (Platform for sharing knowledge) is a monthly gathering where intellectuals, experts and decision makers come together to share their knowledge and experience. An expert presents his research or experience in significant issue on Somalia, and the others explore the topic with him/her in the ensuing discussion.
Cilmiwadaag platform motto:
“Investment in knowledge always serves the best interest”.
Talowadaag Roundtable “Roundtable for sharing opinions” is a Quarterly meeting for critical discussion of political, economic and social issues in Somalia and Horn of Africa. It brings together scholars, activists, decision makers, Practitioners and prominent figures, to bridge between scholarly viewpoints and policymaking process.
Talowadaag Roundtable contributes to the formation of a space conducive to open discussion on significant key issues of common interest. Its motto is “Ideas for a better Somalia”.
Talowadaag Roundtable motto is: “Ideas for a Better Somalia”.
Somali Young Researchers Initiative (SYRI) aims at promoting outstanding students and
prepare and train them to engage in research in Somali Studies, particularly in humanities and social science.
This initiative is a means to explore and ignite the potential capacity of Somali young researchers.
SYRI was launched on November 2014.

Somali Studies: A Peer-Reviewed Academic Journal for Somali Studies is a broad scope multidisciplinary academic journal devotes to Somali studies; published annually by the Institute for Somali Studies at Mogadishu University. It is the first of its kind issued from Somalia.
Somali Studies accepts scholarly works in different areas and disciplines on Somalia, Horn of Africa, and the Somali diaspora communities around the world. Somali Studies invites submissions from all scholars and researchers, both within and outside of Horn of Africa.
Somali Studies appreciates papers exploring the historical background or navigating the contemporary issues; special consideration will be given to issues which are critical to the recovery and rebuilding of Somalia, a country emerging from a devastating civil war.

Aims & Scope
Somali Studies provides a forum for publication of academic articles from scholars in Somali studies in broad scope of areas and disciplines, particularly focused on the social science and humanities disciplines.
Somali Studies aims to promote a scholarly understanding of Somalia and the Horn of Africa, specifically issues relevant to the Somali people, and the Somali diaspora communities around the globe.
The annual conference On Somali Studies (ACSOS) is a platform for Academics, researchers, practitioners and policy makers to present their works as well as to share and discuss the current issues in the field. It was launched in 2014 and organizes annually by the Institute for Somali Studies (ISOS) at Mogadishu University, Mogadishu –Somalia.
