About MU

The idea to establish an educational institution started in June 1997, after which time it took five years to develop and open the university. It opened in September 1997 as a non-governmental, non-profit institution for higher learning, governed by a Board of Trustees and a University Council.

Gender equality policy

Mogadishu University, a not-for-profit institution based in Mogadishu – Somalia, recognizes and affirms the gender equality rights and duties of our employees and students, at all our campuses and affiliates, in a manner equal to the national laws, and international conventions and declarations, which the Federal Republic of Somalia is a signatory.
The University has zero-tolerance for sexual harassment and gender discrimination in all its forms, and the University should treat everyone equally with fairness, respect, and mutual acceptance. This equality covers all terms of employment, education, research, management, and leadership.
This gender policy purports that men and women should have equal rights and duties in the participation and distribution of all national resources. It upholds equal participation of genders in having equal share and distribution of all economic, political, social, and cultural advancement while equally benefiting from such outcomes of all human development opportunities. As such, the University recommends its administrators uphold this policy accordingly.
